Introduction

Introduction
Oil and gas companies are large entities made up of many components. Keeping these working at optimal level ensures maximum productivity and profitability. Large oil and gas companies have many assets that rely on high quality energy to operate. Energy must be metered for usage and revenue purposes, for alarms on degraded power and power quality events, and for post-event analysis. EIG offers solutions for these energy management challenges.
Protect Critical Equipment
Oil and gas companies utilize many large, complex, and expensive pieces of equipment. These are critical to the work being done and must be functioning at their optimal levels. Power quality monitoring helps to accomplish this objective.
Placing EIG’s advanced power quality and energy meters on motors and other critical equipment lets you analyze all aspects of the energy being used. This can help you determine if a piece of equipment is not using energy efficiently, which may, in turn, indicate the need for maintenance. Performing maintenance when problems are first seen prevents equipment failure, unplanned downtime, and the expense of replacing failed equipment.

Prevent Damaging Power Outages
EIG’s advanced power quality meters enable you to set limits on multiple energy parameters such as power factor, VARs, real power, harmonic disturbances, etc. If the limits are exceeded, the meters can send a control command for swift action, while also sending emails to multiple parties, alerting them of the potential problems. The meters also provide fast and accurate streams of synchrophasor data to the system operator for dynamic power swings. In this way, system operators are made aware immediately when there is a problem that threatens the electrical supply. This enables them to take protective action before the problem escalates to the point of a power outage.

EIG’s power quality meters enable pre-and post-event analysis that allows operators to identify the source of harmful PQ events, i.e., whether they originated with the utility or from within the facility. This is important for any liability claims, as well as for preventing the same situation from re-occurring.
Ensure High Power Quality
Ensuring high power quality in the electrical system is an important consideration for oil and gas companies. Degraded power quality leads to energy inefficiency, because more power is needed to perform a job. It can also lead to excess wear and tear and damage to equipment. Both situations result in lost productivity.
EIG’s advanced power quality meters are certified to IEC 61000-4-30 Class A Edition 3, the highest international standard for power quality measurement. Capabilities include up to 1024 samples/cycle waveform recording at 16-bit resolution and transient capture at 50 MHz sampling speed. As mentioned before, the meters have limit alarms programming on all measured parameters, for example, voltage, power factor, reactive power factor, and frequency, to dynamically alert operators when conditions arise that need their attention. The meters measure harmonics, including THD and TDD, and support power quality reporting, including CBEMA and SEMI F47 support.

Monitor Energy Usage
An important requirement for energy cost savings is knowing how much energy is being used and where it is being used. EIG power quality meters also report on all aspects of electrical usage. As mentioned earlier, they can be used to monitor equipment. They can also be used to submeter areas of the facility to properly allocate costs and find any circuits that are using abnormally high energy.
Monitoring the energy the facility uses also enables the company to verify utility charges and perform billing of any subsidiary equipment or departments. EIG’s advanced revenue meters are certified to ANSI C12.20 0.1 CL energy accuracy and have multiple security features to protect your data.
EIG’s EnergyPQA.com® energy management system provides tracking of water, air, gas, and steam usage in addition to electricity, bringing all commodity usage into one easy to view platform. It also uses AI-based energy predictions to provide insights into energy trends into the future so system operators can act in advance – providing significant savings on energy usage and demand charges. It provides multiple dashboards and can generate reports that grade facilities from best to worst in power quality risk. The reports identify specific circuits that are performing poorly, as well as providing detailed analysis of the facility’s power quality indices, giving you deep insights into all aspects of the facility’s power reliability.

Implement Customizable SCADA System
At an oil and gas facility, the one-line diagram is not only a visual representation of the system, but acts as the eyes, ears, brains, and heartbeat for the system. It brings facility-wide awareness in real time from devices across the power system, while allowing operator level control for quick actions to keep the processes running.
EIG’s HMIPQA+™ application is a next generation SCADA solution. Supporting both EIG meters and third party devices, it is easily scalable to fit your company’s requirements with highly customizable and intuitive graphical displays of both energy metering and other commodity data. It seamlessly puts the right tools at the operator’s fingertips for informed energy management decisions. Features include:
